What is Day Camp?
Day Camp is NOT a troop event. It's an area wide event. This means leaders are not responsible to get their troop to and from camp, to get them registered them for camp, to work at camp, or to even go to camp. It's great if they do, but it's the one time leader daughters can enjoy local Girl Scouting with a leader other than their mom.
However, leaders DO come to Day Camp, because it IS an amazing time. Leaders come to mix and mingle with other leaders. Daily carpools involve gathering up loads of singing and laughing girls. While at camp, leaders network, share ideas, hike, learn and play new games, do crafts, drink lots of coffee, and laugh--a lot. Girl Scouts of all ages spend a week mixing and mingling with other girls and leaders helping to make new friends, share ideas, and a strong community of Girl Scouts.
Day Camp is where a Brownie leader can talk to an experienced Junior leader to learn ideas about bridging and managing an older girl troop. It's where non-campers get their first experiences of outdoor cooking, campfire skits, and sleeping in a cabin. It’s a time of making new friends, learning new skills, and where we begin our progression of outdoor skills.
I've been a leader for over a decade, and Camp Evergreen Day Camp has been at the top of my girls' list of favorite must-do activities every single year. Day Camp has made me a better leader, a mom, and Girl Scout. If you want to know more, if you want to be part of it--or if you just want to send your daughter and know that for one week of summer she will unplug from the television and come home exhausted with a smile on her face then you’ve come to the right place.
I have Program Aides willing to come talk to local troops, and leaders willing to answer your questions. Just give me a call or fill out the contact form below and we'll get you all set up.
Camp is always held the Tues-Saturday of the week after July 4th. Camp Evergreen is located just West of Longview—off SR4/Ocean Beach Highway at Mill Creek Road. We have an amazing LOCAL Girl Scout camp complete with a creek, woods and trails, cabins, and bathrooms (including showers!).
Registration forms will be headed your way in late March/early April, or follow the links on the registration tab and print off a copy and mail it in today.
Registration fees are $125 per camper, tag-a-long and first year PA, $60 for trained PA's, and each full week adult volunteer gets to register one child for free. If your daughter is not already a registered Girl Scout, there is an additional $25 GSUSA registration fee.
We do accept Cookie Dough to pay for camp registration, and GSWW has financial aid available. Finances should never keep a girl from enjoying a Girl Scout experience.
Day Camp is a great time for girls to come check out scouting--you don't have to be in a troop to come join us for a fun packed week of outdoor fun!
